Black Forest

Swabian Alps

Hohenzollern Castle, Swabian Alps, Baden-Württemberg, GermanyThe Swabian Alps or Upper Swabia is in southern Baden-Württemberg. It is in fact a region of low limestone mountains and not really part of the Alps at all. Nevertheless, the Swabian Alps does have its attractions. Holidays on Lake Constance (Bodensee) is the jewel in its crown. There as some lovely hotels, cottages and villas on Lake Constance, considered by many to be the German Riviera. Another area of outstanding natural beauty is the Upper Danube Valley, which carves its way through the soft limestone mountains, forming deep gorges and some spectacular scenery. One popular feature is the beautiful limestone cave systems eroded over time, which on occasions have swallowed the Dunube completely. Much like holidays in the Black Forest, the Swabian Alps are mainly for nature lovers with hiking and biking being the main activities and of course, watersports on Lake Constance.

If there isn’t a ‘Go Deeper’ link, then there are no further sub-regions for that region.

If there’s a three dot ellipsis on the navigation bar under the main menu, this indicates that one or more regions have sub-regions. Double click the region on the map or click the 'Go Deeper' link to explore it further.

Categories

The Travel Guides allow you to search regions by broad categories, like Hotels, Rentals and Resorts, etc. Clicking a category will take you to the results page, where you can refine you search further using the Filter dropdown.

Tip: If you’re not sure where to holiday, stay at the country level to get a feel for a region. Once you’ve found a region of interest, return to the Travel Guide and double click the map or click ‘Go Deeper’ to explore it further.
